My second language students especially loved the fun facts and would often bring me lists of their own facts which they had found. This was reassuring to me. It meant they were going home and researching, in English, for information, reading it and making a decision whether it applied to the 'topic' - that being a fun fact.
I would see on their faces as they walked in, looking for the 'information,' how they read it and processed it and then discussed it - what more could I ask for (especially from my second language students who would under normal circumstances prefer to speak in their mother tongue).
It is for this reason that I created 'A Week of Wordy Wisdom'. Each day has a new "Wordy Wisdom" to share with your students. The line up is as follows:
Each week I post a description of how to use the new week's set of information on my blog and give activities or resources to accompany them, including website ideas and free word searches. You can find this information here.
This gives you an idea of what each week is about. This is week 1.
I have completed five weeks and week 6 will be posted by Sunday along with the blog post detailing examples of what can be done with it. Check the activities and ideas by clicking on each week:

I like how this program is more than just the "word of the week." And it's great that your second language learners got so involved with it, too!
